Amanda Thurmon
Amanda Thurmon was born in Shreveport, La and works as an artist in Denver, CO. She began painting and drawing at a young age and continued to practice and experiment with different mediums throughout her life. She received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting from Louisiana Tech University where she discovered her love for painting and sculpture. By inter-sectioning different styles, she uses materials and traditional mediums to produce surreal artworks which represent the world from a different perspective.
Amanda Thurmon uses a narrative and illustrative approach to figures in her pieces. These works focus on the general conflict of the human psyche vs. society or the environment that we are influenced by.
The subjects are drawn into various compositions to relay a sense of intimacy in a static space. They are often surrounded by an egg or a “shell” of their former selves from which they emerge. This imagery is symbolic to how we respond to the pressures of the world. We are in a constant state of change and are reborn many times over; all are analogous to how we form our own identities which are parallel to the world we live in.
